Wiki Neighborhood Magic

Wiki's use of the Neighborhood is an example sufficiently advanced technology: indistinguishable from magic. Readers of the federation benefit from keeping some attention on the footer of wiki pages where Neighborhood details are updated.

Unlike conventional web pages, federated wiki puts the content at the top of the page. The metadata about wiki itself is confined to the footer. Learning how to read the footer is helpful for many aspects of navigating wiki.

The right side of the footer shows four sites in the Neighborhood. Hover reveals the domain names.

The Search box looks for keywords in the 518 pages in the neighborhood. Search results are therefore different in different neighborhoods.

Recent Changes provides a list of pages from the current neighborhood, sorted by which have been most recently edited. The motivated reader can manage their neighborhood to make interesting use of the recent changes page.

For example, with a carefully constructed lineup which includes a site by Ward and a site by Thompson, the reader can browse the recent changes between them to see where they have forked each other's pages. lineup

Ward described his wiki conversation with Thompson as an especially informative experience. So I have constructed an experiment using the Activity Plugin and the Roster Plugin to capture an index of sorts.

Other features of the Neighborhood are well described in existing wiki docs.

The wiki keeps track of sites you visit and sites mentioned on pages you visit on each site. Wiki seeks to know about sites in this collection called a neighborhood.
